The Helambu Trek, located northeast of the Kathmandu Valley rim, offers an incredible journey through scenic countryside and vibrant cultural villages. Tarke-Gyang and Sermathang, the main settlements of the Helambu region, provide a fascinating glimpse into the area’s rich heritage.

This trek follows a serene and less-traveled trail, offering a peaceful experience away from the more crowded routes. As you ascend to high ridges, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the snow-capped Langtang and Jugal Himal ranges to the north.

Helambu is home to the Hyalmo people, an ethnic group closely related to the Sherpa and Tamang communities, sharing similar Buddhist traditions and colorful cultural practices. Day 01

Drive from Kathmandu to Sundarijal (1,460 m) and Trek to Chisapani Hill (2,195 m) - 05 hrs.

The morning starts with a scenic short drive, about 15 km beyond Kathmandu, to Sundarijal. From there, the journey continues with an uphill climb to the entrance of Shivapuri and Langtang National Park. The trail winds through lush forests and traditional farm villages, gradually ascending to Chisapani, a picturesque ridge on the northern rim of the Kathmandu Valley. At an elevation of 2,195 meters, enjoy the crisp mountain air and breathtaking panoramic views of Annapurna, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Langtang Himal, and the Jugal Himal range, along with a sweeping vista of Kathmandu Valley. Chisapani is also known for its spectacular sunrise and sunset over the majestic peaks.
Day 02

Trek to Kutumsang (2,141 m) - 06 hrs.

In the morning, wake up to a breathtaking sunrise over a panorama of towering peaks. After breakfast, begin a descent towards Pati-Bhanjyang village, followed by a steady climb to Thodung Danda and onward over Gulphu-Bhanjyang. The journey leads to the charming village of Kutumsang, where you will stop for the night, marking the entrance into the scenic Helambu region.
Day 03

Trek to Melamche-Gaon (2,560 m) via high Tadepatti (3,590 m) - 06 hrs.

Spending the night in Kutumsang, the journey continues in the morning with a climb toward the Yurin Danda ridge, passing through a serene forest of rhododendron, pine, and oak trees. The trail ascends to a small pass at 3,510 meters before descending briefly into a cool, forested area, leading to an open expanse. From here, a steady climb reaches Tadepatti, a scenic lunch stop with simple lodges and breathtaking views of the Langtang and Jugal mountain ranges. After a refreshing break in Thadepatti, the path ascends to a ridge, offering spectacular vistas of the Jugal Himal range, with Ganesh and Manaslu peaks visible to the west. From the summit, the descent begins toward Melamche-Gaon, winding through a dense forest of towering rhododendron and pine trees. The trail then leads to a grassy clearing at the base of a hill, followed by a walk past terraced farm fields before reaching Melamche-Gaon for an overnight stay. This village is home to the Hyalmo people, with influences from the Sherpa and Tamang communities.
Day 04

Trek to Tarke-Gyang (2,570 m) - 04 hrs.

In the morning, enjoy a short day walk from Malamche to the prominent village of Helambu, Tarke Gyang. The trail descends to the Melamchi River, where you'll cross a suspension bridge before beginning an hour-long ascent. Passing through Nakote village, you'll arrive at Tarke Gyang for lunch and an overnight stay.
Day 05

A day at Tarke-Gyang to explore local culture and views

Tarke-Gyang is renowned for its rich Buddhist heritage, vibrant culture, intricate wood carvings, and the delicious green apples grown in its surrounding orchards. It's a perfect day to explore the charming homes of the Hyalmo people and visit the historic Ama Yangri Monastery, perched atop the village.
Day 06

Trek to Sermathang ( 2,693 m) - 04 hrs.

After leaving the charming village of Tarke Ghyang in the morning, enjoy a short trek through a forested area, passing numerous Chortens (Buddhist prayer monuments) on your way to the small village of Gangyul. From there, continue along a scenic, winding path offering breathtaking views of rolling hills, leading you to Shermathang, where you'll stop for the night. Shermathang is another beautiful village, home to the Hyalmo people, the local tribe of Helambu. Take some time to explore a historic and fascinating monastery during your visit.
Day 07

Drive back to Kathmandu

After an amazing time in Tarke Gyang and Sermathang, where our trek concludes, we begin our drive downhill toward the warmer lowlands, reaching Melamche Bazaar, a bustling town. From there, we continue on the road to Kathmandu. The journey takes us through numerous farm villages before reaching the main road, passing Dhulikhel town, Banepa, and Sanga. We then descend towards Bhaktapur city before finally returning to Kathmandu, where you'll be transferred to your respective hotels.
